Taco Salad Tex-Mex Style with seasoned minced beef, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, olives, corn, cheddar, and tortilla chips

Taco Salad (Tex-Mex Style)

(A colourful, crunchy, and seriously satisfying salad that’s anything but boring!)

If there’s one salad that can turn even the biggest “I don’t like salad” person into a believer, it’s this Taco Salad. It’s everything you love about tacos: the seasoned beef, the crunchy tortilla chips, the creamy toppings, all tossed together in one glorious, flavour-packed bowl.

This Tex-Mex-inspired dish has become one of my go-to recipes when I want something quick, fresh, and full of bold flavours. It’s easy to make, endlessly customisable, and ideal for busy weeknights, family dinners, or even a casual get-together with friends.

A Salad That’s Anything But Ordinary

Forget limp lettuce and plain dressing because this salad is a full meal. The base is made of crisp romaine or iceberg lettuce, giving you that satisfying crunch. Then comes the heart of the dish: seasoned minced beef, cooked until golden and full of smoky taco flavour.

I usually make my own taco seasoning because it takes less than a minute and tastes fresher. Just paprika, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, and pepper. But if you’ve got a ready-made mix, that works just as well.

Once your beef is cooked, it’s time for the fun part: the toppings. Sweetcorn, cherry tomatoes, black olives, cheddar cheese, and spring onions all add layers of texture and colour. A handful of tortilla chips or Doritos if you’re feeling cheeky finishes it off with that irresistible crunch.

Dress It Up Your Way

The dressing is beautifully simple: sour cream and salsa. Stir them together for a creamy, tangy sauce that coats every bite perfectly. If you want to take things up a notch, try chipotle ranch or a homemade cilantro-lime dressing for a bit of zest.

A squeeze of fresh lime over the top right before serving makes everything taste bright and summery.
